Corvette Mike's Treasure Chest
1957 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible Red
This stunning ’57 fuelie was meticulously restored to NCRS judging standards starting in the late 80's. When it was finished in the early 90's the previous owner was afraid to drive it! As a result, he only took it out in the most optimal weather conditions and in 27 years, put only 2,500 miles on the car!
Everything was done as if the car was going to be judged and receive a top flight. There’s lots of neat stuff on this car but the owner knew going in that the original engine was long gone as well as the 3-speed transmission it should have had. During the restoration process it was discovered to be a real red/red, stick shift, FI., no heater and probably a radio delete Corvette! Photos show a no hit body when the black lacquer paint was stripped off with remnants of original Venetian Red underneath.
The current owner’, an N.C.R.S. Master Judge by the way, purchased the car in 2009 after selling his 62 "Duntov" Corvette and vowed to make this car look as nice as his old 62.
In the 1st few years he rebuilt the transmission, clutch, timing chain and gears, the FI unit, changed the ignition to electronic, new oil pump, new oil pan, all new brakes and a new soft top assembly from Clint Coffman. In the past 2 years the underbody was detailed, engine compartment re-freshened and Coker classic radial white walls added once the correct dog dish wheel covers were located.
