1966 Milano Maroon Corvette L72 Coupe
Beautifully restored big block with excellent cosmetics.Milano Maroon w/Black interior L72 427/425hp, 4-spd. manual transmission.
The ’66 Corvette big block was significant for one reason . . . Four-Twenty-Seven!! After being introduced the previous year as a 396, the powers that be out in Detroit decided that more was better, so for ’66 the cubes were increased to 427. Because size most definitely mattered back then.
This very cool ’66 is an early example of the L72 equipped 427ci high performance big block engine. These early L72’s were rated at 450hp. Pretty soon after the engine was available, the hp rating was changed to 425hp. There were no modifications to warrant the decrease in hp. There has always been speculation as to why this happened. But no firm reason was ever given.
This car had undergone a frame-on restoration about eight years ago and features a beautiful repaint in the original Milano Maroon. It’s #’s matching engine was also rebuilt during that time and recently a heavy-duty radiator was installed. The original radiator is included with the sale. Ather equipment includes, knock-off wheels wrapped in red line radial tires, side exhaust and power steering.
