We love our “Special Editions”! Corvette has had special editions way back in ’78 when no less than two were introduced to an anxiously awaiting press and buying public! The first two were the 25 Anniversary Edition and the Indy Pace Car. Then in ’82 came the Collector Edition to mark the end of C3 production. In ’88 came the 35 Anniversary Edition followed by the 40th Anniversary Edition. And then in ’96 came the Collector Edition and Grand Sport to commemorate the end of C4 production.
This Collector Edition is special in a number of ways! The first being what’s under the hood!
When ZR-1 production ended in ’95, Corvette was left without an optional, higher performance engine option. That was remedied with the introduction of the LT4 in ’96. This one year only engine with basically a hot-rodded LT1 with higher compression, re-designed aluminum heads, Crane roller rocker arms, revised camshaft profile and some other tweaks here and there. The result was an increased redline of 8000rpm and a conservatively rated 330hp. The engine was available with any Corvette, but only with the manual 6-spd. transmission. Driving an LT4 eqipped Corvette is an exhilarating experience! For those of you longing for a Corvette close to the performance of a C4 ZR-1 but in Convertible form, the LT4 will not disappoint!
Oh, and another way this Collector Edition is special, is it only has 1,100 original miles!
