Peter Brock’s Studio Concept 1963 Corvette “Split Window”: A Modern Take on a Timeless Classic
In 1957, GM designer Peter Brock, under the direction of Bill Mitchell at GM Styling, contributed to one of the most iconic automotive designs: the 1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe. Known for its timeless appeal, Brock’s design remains one of the most celebrated creations of the Mitchell era.
Today, 67 years later, Brock is back—refining his original vision for the 2024 SEMA Show with a reimagined “Studio Concept” version of the split window. “There were details that never made it to production,” Brock explains. “This year, I’ve taken the classic form and enhanced it, capturing elements from my original 1957 sketches.” This factory “Split Window” Studio Concept stays true to the Split Window’s legacy while introducing bold yet subtle refinements, intriguing enthusiasts with each curve. The design integrates an elegant re-styling paired with a completely modernized chassis, C7 suspension and braking system. Under the hood lies a fully upgraded LS3 engine delivering over 600 horsepower—a true fusion of classic style and cutting-edge performance. “It’s exactly the way l’d love to have a split window today with functional vents and all the performance you could ever use on the street. I’m lovin’ it!” says Brock.
Peter Brock, the renowned automotive designer and author, had been captivated by cars from a young age. His fascination with design and aerodynamics led him to join General Motors in the ’50s, where he found himself at the forefront of automotive innovation. The Sting Ray project was a turning point, a canvas where he could blend artistry with engineering. The genesis of the Sting Ray wasn’t just about crafting a car; it was about challenging conventions. During the Wynn Concours, Mike met up with Peter and reminisced about the bold decisions—the split rear window, the iconic side vents, and the streamlined silhouette that made the Sting Ray instantly recognizable. As Peter went through the book with Mike, a sense of pride washed over him. The Sting Ray wasn’t just a car but a legacy—a testament to innovation and the pursuit of greatness. It had left an indelible mark on automotive history, a legacy that inspired generations of enthusiasts. My name is Rod Keller, and I’m the Delivery Experience Manager at the National Corvette Museum. I know your time is valuable, so I’ll keep this brief.
I wanted to share with you an exciting opportunity we offer: a delivery program for “used” Corvettes at the NCM. This program has been a unique addition for dealerships, with some finding it helpful in closing sales. It provides an enhanced experience for customers, allowing them to receive their Corvette in an iconic setting. The current cost for the program is $500 + tax, and all we need is the car delivered to us. I’ve attached further details on how the program works and the benefits it could bring to your potential buyers. I’d be honored to host some of the incredible Corvettes from your inventory and look forward to any questions you might have. I’ve also included a picture from a recent delivery—these experiences are truly memorable for our customers. Chick Here for more information, Rod Keller |

If you’re waiting for the waiter, doesn’t that make you the waiter?
Why do we say “after dark” when it’s actually after light? I wonder if plants are secretly competing to grow the tallest just to show off. |
