Rick N., Zora, and Elfi at the 1980 National meet in San Mateo, CA
As a long-time member of NCRS (1978), I’ve met many interesting folks along the way that still brings a smile to my face today. Obviously, Corvettes provide the common denominator, but it’s the people and the friendships built along the way that make this hobby so enjoyable. In 1980, the Northern CA Chapter of the NCRS held a National meet in San Mateo, CA and I was fortunate enough to have Zora Duntov and his wife, Elfi, as our special guests for the event. The four-day meet ended on a Sunday, culminating with a drive from the host hotel up the peninsula to Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco. The caravan was led by Zora and his wife in a ’54 Vette, with 30 other Vettes following behind. Even in the Summer, coastal weather can be quite chilly, and the Duntov’s discovered that the meager heater of early model Corvette could not keep them warm. It was at the first planned stop that an enclosed car was more to their liking, and they asked if another Corvette was available for them to drive. I was approached by Noland Adams and asked if we could swap rides…….. How could a request of this magnitude be turned down? Absolutely!!! Before proceeding, I posed for a picture with Mr. Duntov in front of my ’66 Coupe, with Mrs. Duntov in the background reloading her camera. Upon reaching the destination, Zora thanked me for letting him drive my car, and noted that the steering felt very loose. He asked for a screwdriver and wrench and no less than five sets were immediately produced. We popped the hood, and with a few adjustments on the steering gear box, Zora eliminated the play in the steering column. The day could not have ending on a higher note, but more importantly, the memories from this encounter with the Father of the Corvette will live on for a lifetime!

2006 Chevy SSR Roadster Pick Up
Final Production Run Edition
In Pristine Condition With Only 7k Miles
Redline Red w/Ebony Interior, 6.0/395hp V8, 4-Speed Automatic
This absolutely stunning SSR was special ordered by the late Bruce Patchett, former owner of Bruce Chevrolet in Hillsboro OR., for his personal collection. It was a tip of the hat to the SSR model of which he was a huge fan! This vehicle was ordered in his favorite color of Redline Red and had to have every single option available by Chevrolet, along with a few dealer-installed items.
The truck lived the late part of its life at Bruce’s vacation home in AZ. in a climate-controlled garage designated just for this vehicle! To say it was treasured would be an understatement!
Before the estate relinquished the SSR, it was treated to a complete once-over by the local Chevrolet dealer in Tuscon. At the inspection there were a list of items that were recommended and the following service was completed:
New tires
Oil service
Brake fluid flush
Rear axle service
Fuel system service
Battery replacement
Transmission service
Power steering service
Wiper blade replacement
Air filter replacement
The service bill came to just under $4,000

Callaway Jacket
One owner, excellent condition!
The Callaway name has been synonymous for the highest performance
in both in Corvette, and golf circles for decades.
Back in the ‘80’s Reeves Callaway took a Corvette, modified and strengthened the L98 engine, and bolted on a couple of turbo chargers. The result was the RPO B2K Callaway Corvette! Available only through Chevrolet dealers. The car became an instant collectible classic!
To commemorate the end of the Twin Turbo era, Callaway introduced a very special model called the Speedster. The cars featured the twin turbo engine, Aerobody, a cut-down windshield and side glass, and special paint and interior color schemes. Only 10 Speedsters were built, and Corvette Mike sold all of them! One of the unique items that came with the purchase of a Speedster was this very sharp jacket. But what makes this one even more of a rare find is that it’s signed by Reeves Callaway, legendary automotive designer Larry Shinoda, and the Godfather himself, Zora Arkus-Duntov. Here’s your chance to own a piece of Corvette history!

I wish my wallet came with a “refill” button—like a soda at a fast food place.
I’m not saying I’m bad at cooking, but my smoke alarm just gave me a standing ovation.
