Too Good To Be True – $28k 1963 Corvette Convertible

1963 Corvette Scam

Every Corvette enthusiast knows the thrill of the hunt, but sometimes, it’s the hunt that bites you. In East Tennessee, Jim, a longtime Corvette lover thought he’d found a dream deal on a 1963 Corvette posted on Facebook Marketplace. The price was just $26,000, well below the typical market value of these classics, and the seller insisted the car was in excellent running condition.

Convinced he’d scored big, Jim wired the funds plus a delivery fee, $26,750 in total, without ever seeing the car in person. A bill of sale with a VIN had been sent, and the seller promised shipment soon. Instead, the car never arrived. Calls went unanswered, and soon Jim was blocked from contacting the seller entirely. “Boom, gone,” he later said, describing how quickly the money disappeared with no Corvette to show for it.

Classic cars like a ’63 Corvette are rare and valuable, and unfortunately, perfect for the scammers who try to take advantage of buyers online. The takeaway? Never send money for a classic vehicle sight unseen from a private party. Always insist on seeing the car in person, meeting the seller face-to-face, and verifying ownership and condition before wiring any funds. If you can’t do this in person, there are verified inspectors who can do it for a very reasonable price. It’s a lesson many car lovers learn the hard way, but one worth sharing so others don’t end up with empty hands instead of the keys to their dream Corvette.

A Corvette Won by Magic, and Still Driven Today

Owners Corner Disney Janet

In 1989, Janet Long went to Disneyland expecting nothing more than a fun vacation. What she left with was a Corvette and a story she’s been living ever since. During a Disney event called Blast to the Past, guests were invited to guess how many yo-yos filled a display car: a 1961 Chevrolet Corvette. Janet took a wild guess. A month later, she got the call, she had won the car.

Disney flew Janet and her fiancé back to California to receive the keys in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. Two weeks before their wedding, they pointed the Corvette north and drove it up the Pacific Coast Highway. Somewhere along the way, a single leftover yo-yo rolled out from under the seat. Janet tied it to the rearview mirror, where it still hangs today, 36 years later.

Janet still drives her Corvette regularly, saving it for fair-weather days in the Pacific Northwest. With its manual transmission, heavy clutch, and no power steering, she loves the raw, physical connection to the road. Strangers still stop her to ask about the car, and the personalized plate “THXDSNY” says it all.

The yo-yo still swings. The memories keep growing. And every drive is a reminder that sometimes, the best Corvettes don’t just come from a dealer, they come from a little bit of luck and a lot of magic.
