FaceBook_Scam

A collector recently fell victim to a Facebook Marketplace scam while trying to purchase a 1963 Corvette. Believing he had found the deal of a lifetime, he wired $26,000 to a seller who promised the car was ready to ship. Once the money was sent, the seller disappeared—leaving the buyer without a car and without recourse.

This type of scam is becoming increasingly common in the classic car world.

Here are some red flags to watch for when buying online:
Unrealistic pricing
Pressure to act fast
Wire transfer requests
Lack of documentation

Tips to Protect Yourself:
Use a trusted escrow service or a reputable dealer
Research the seller, check their background, and online presence
Always verify ownership and documentation before sending money
Whenever possible, inspect the vehicle in person or hire

Monterey 2025 is in the books, and the results are in! Thanks to Hagerty for crunching the early numbers. Here are the standouts:

Bonhams staged an incredible comeback at The Quail, surging from $12.5M in 2024 to $44.2M this year with a 96% sell-through rate. A huge turnaround driven by major collections and smart no-reserve offerings.

RM Sotheby’s led the pack with $163.8M in sales and an $1.2M average price per car. The headline was the one-off Ferrari Daytona SP3 “Tailor Made” charity lot, which stunned at $26M.

Gooding climbed to $119.1M, highlighted by the record-breaking $25.3M sale of a 11961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Spider California Competizione.

Broad Arrow slipped to $49.8M, off 19% from 2024. Their top lot was a Maserati MC12 Spyder at $5.2M.

Mecum Sell-through rate was actually up, but the price dropped

Chevrolet made waves this week with official Nürburgring lap times for the new Corvette ZR1 and ZR1X. The ZR1 ran an incredible 6:50.763, while the ZR1X edged ahead with a 6:49.275 — both quicker than the much more expensive Mustang GTD.

But Nürburgring YouTuber and expert racer Mikhael “Misha” Charoudin says the ZR1 could have gone even faster, by as much as 10 seconds. His detailed analysis of the lap shows conservative driving lines and slower exits that left speed on the table. Why? GM used engineers, not experienced Nürburgring pro drivers, for the official lap.

According to Misha, with a seasoned Nürburgring racer behind the wheel, the ZR1 could easily threaten the
