1971 Moss Green Poly Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 Coupe
Beautiful, and very original SE!Moss Green Poly w/Cognac interior, 3.5L/200hp V8, 4-speed automatic transmission.
Timeless elegance meets German engineering in this 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 Coupe, one of the most coveted models of its era. Hand-built in Stuttgart, the 280SE 3.5 was the last of Mercedes’ true coach-built coupes and represents the pinnacle of luxury and style for the early ’70s.
Under the hood, the 3.5-liter V8 engine delivers smooth yet powerful performance, paired with a refined automatic transmission that makes this grand tourer an absolute pleasure to drive. This model set the standard for Mercedes’ future luxury V8s, and it remains one of the most collectible classics in their lineup.
Finished in a stunning Moss Green Poly exterior over a Cognac leather cabin, this absolutely beautiful and very original example exudes sophistication. It’s been meticulously cared for since new, with low miles. Its airy greenhouse, pillarless coupe design, and finely detailed chrome accents remind us of a time when craftsmanship was paramount. Inside, wood trim, leather upholstery, and precise instrumentation complete the picture of understated luxury. It’s a joy to drive with excellent performance from the smooth 3.5L V8. Open up the sunroof, crank the cold a-c and cruise.
This spectacular and incredibly original 3.5 Sunroof Coupe was delivered new by World Wide Motors in Indianapolis, Indiana to a local Dr. who lived just a couple of hours away in Jasper. He took delivery on August 13, 1971. The factory original Mercedes service book shows that World Wide Motors meticulously maintained the car for him over the next 23 years. The second owner was also from Indiana; Mr. John W. Records show that he bought the car from the Dr. in 1994 and kept it for 29 years. With the exception of one repaint in the original color by master Mercedes restorer Scott Melnick of Auto Engineering in Calabasas, California, the car is 100% original with just 71,500 miles from new.
Finished in factory original Moss Green Metallic, the car was optioned with factory air conditioning, power windows and a rare electric sunroof. The original interior is Cognac leather and the driver’s seat shows the typical signs of wear that an original, 53 year old car would show. Other than that, the rest of the interior: headliner, dash wood and leather, rear deck leather, center console, carpets, door panels, etc… all are in the best original condition we have ever seen on a 3.5 Coupe. The car comes with all of it’s original factory manuals, tools, jack and spare. It still has its original Becker Europa radio; the body is razor straight and rust free; the paint is beyond spectacular; air conditioning blows ice cold. If you’ve been looking for an immaculate, turn key 3.5 Coupe, look no further. With a very recent 3.5 Coupe sale of a comparable car for $240,000, we believe this car represents exceptional value
