The famous Bob Wingate Corvette!
Goodwood Green w/Black interior. L71 427/435hp, 4-speed manual transmission. If you’re ever in the market for the rarest, most unusual, interesting, and historic Corvettes on the planet, look no further than Corvette Mike! Case in point. The stunning 1967 Coupe presented here. 1967 Goodwood Green Corvette L71 Coupe – The Famous “Wingate Corvette” 1 of 1 Factory Special Order • Built for Bob Wingate by Chevrolet Product Promotions This ’67 Corvette is the only known, documented example of a Factory Shop Order Corvette. The car was built especially for Bob Wingate by Joe Pike of Chevrolet Product Promotions, as a special favor and reward. Wingate led the nation for a number of years in a row for single handedly selling the most Corvettes for an individual . . . over 160 in 1967 alone! Wingate, who personally sold more Corvettes than any other salesman in the U.S. during the 1960s, received this car as a special reward for his record-breaking sales and his work promoting the Corvette brand nationwide. Built at the St. Louis factory and finished in Goodwood Green with a black interior, this Corvette came equipped with the L71 427/435hp Tri-Power engine, unique M20 wide-ratio 4-speed transmission. What makes this drivetrain package unusual is the fact that it was special ordered with a wide ratio M20, instead of the close ratio M21. Bob requested this because he intended to autocross the car and felt this set up would be more useful. And it definitely was, as Bob was quite successful on the racing circuit with this very car! If you look inside the car, you will see a multitude of plaques designating all of the places that Bob competed with the ’67. It reads like a racing history lesson! Documentation includes an N.C.R.S. validated Tank Sticker, and numerous magazine articles about the car. And to top it all off, it’s also recipient of the prestigious N.C.R.S. American Heritage Award! Additional options included side exhaust, and a host of unique, factory-installed custom touches — American Racing wheels with Goodyear Blue Streaks, six taillights, white hood stripe, deleted front bumpers, Teakwood steering wheel, and even hand-lettered “427” hood graphics. Every detail was installed directly on the production line, making this a true one-off show car from Chevrolet itself. Wingate raced and promoted this Corvette throughout California, winning numerous autocross events and earning trophies that helped cement his reputation as the Corvette guy of the 1960s. After its storied year in service, the car was sold and disappeared for decades before being rediscovered and fully restored to its original factory-built configuration. This historically significant, factory-custom Corvette is a genuine piece of Chevrolet and Corvette history — a one-of-one performance icon built for the man who sold more Corvettes than anyone in America. Stay tuned for more on the journey of this piece of Corvette History coming soon!
