One of the biggest gripes you hear against the Pebble Beach Concours d’Élégance is that it’s a static car show, with the cars parked on the preternaturally perfect grass of the Pebble Beach golf links, more art objects than automobiles. There is, however, an opportunity to see those cars—most of them, at least—in motion, and that’s on the Tour d’Élégance, which takes place on the Thursday before the Concours.
The Tour sees the cars head out 17-Mile Drive, venture east on Aguajito Road, and trace a square through Carmel Valley, then turning back toward the coast on Carmel Valley Road. Next, they head down Highway 1 for nearly 25 miles to Big Sur before turning around and returning to Carmel. In downtown Carmel, the cars line up on the main drag, Ocean Avenue, where the public is free to mill about, getting a close-up view of the extraordinary machines.
Once each year in August about 200 of the most prized collector cars and motorcycles in the world roll onto the fairway of what is often called the best finishing hole in golf — the famed eighteenth at Pebble Beach Golf Links. Tire meets turf and transformation occurs: the stage is set for one of the most competitive events in the automotive world. The occasion is the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
Originally a small social event paired with a road race through the pine and cypress forests of Pebble Beach, the Pebble Beach Concours has grown into the top-ranking collector car competition in the world. People from all over the globe come to compete in or simply witness and enjoy the Concours here at Pebble Beach.

Wednesday, August 12 – A ONE OF A KIND EVENT combining the passion for fine automobiles with the Faith and the Palate. Enjoy wine tasting by some of the Monterey County’s finest vineyards, self-guided tour and beautiful live harp music in the background as you stroll the grounds of the crown jewel of the Monterey Peninsula, the Historic Carmel Mission. A no host gourmet food bar will also be available by a local chef.
All net proceeds go to the charities of the Knights of Columbus and Carmel Mission!
