C8 Corvette Z06’s Nurburgring Lap Time

The C8 Corvette Z06 has finally been put to the ultimate test at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, with Christian Gebhardt of Sport Auto clocking an impressive 7:10 lap time on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires. This puts the mid-engine Z06 ahead of the Mercedes-AMG GT R but behind McLaren’s 600LT and 720S.

Equipped with the Z07 Performance Package and carbon-fiber wheels, the US-spec Z06 demonstrated its power with 670 horsepower from its 5.5L flat-plane crank V8. Notably, the lap time improves by 3 seconds over the C7 Z06, but some fans might find the difference smaller than expected. Factors like the C8’s longer gearing (maxing at 151 mph vs. 158 mph for the C7) and heavier weight played a role.

Still, the C8 Z06 remains a game-changer. With 2.6 seconds to 60 mph, a quarter-mile in 10.6 seconds, and a price starting at $112,100, it continues to deliver supercar performance at an incredible value.

Stay tuned—Corvette’s legacy of performance is far from over!

Genesis of the American Icon

Peter Brock, the renowned automotive designer and author, had been captivated by cars from a young age. His fascination with design and aerodynamics led him to join General Motors in the ’50s, where he found himself at the forefront of automotive innovation. The Sting Ray project was a turning point, a canvas where he could blend artistry with engineering.

The genesis of the Sting Ray wasn’t just about crafting a car; it was about challenging conventions. During the Wynn Concours, Mike met up with Peter and reminisced about the bold decisions—the split rear window, the iconic side vents, and the streamlined silhouette that made the Sting Ray instantly recognizable.

As Peter went through the book with Mike, a sense of pride washed over him. The Sting Ray wasn’t just a car but a legacy—a testament to innovation and the pursuit of greatness. It had left an indelible mark on automotive history, a legacy that inspired generations of enthusiasts.

John B.’s 1958 Corvette

Owning a ‘58 in yellow was a lifelong dream.  So, when I found this one at Corvette Mike’s, I jumped on it.  For me, the most enjoyable thing about owning this car is people’s reactions to it. I have come to regard myself as a mere occupant of the car – a chauffeur of sorts, touring this grand old dame about for others to see and enjoy. But what makes people’s reactions to the car so interesting to me is that they differ from the reactions I used to get on my red ‘58.  On the red one, people would say – cool car, what year is it?  More of the normal stuff.  This one – they flip out like little children.  I think it’s the color.  There’s something about the yellow.   You cannot be in a bad mood, or in a rush while driving this car because everyone wants to stand and talk and take pictures (and have me take their pictures) and reminisce – and smile.

Thank you to Corvette Mike’s for making this dream come true and for all the fun.

John B.
