The Corvette and the Mustang are always battling it out for who is better, but there is a big part of the world that does not get to experience this, the Right-Hand Drive side of the world. Well there is a rumor that GM is about to fix this issue when they roll out the 2018 ZR1. Yes, that is right, there may finally be a factory Right-Hand Drive Vette!

GM knows that the Mustangs sales numbers are enhanced by the fact that they can sell the world over and want a piece of this pie.  One of the stumbling blocks has been something as simple, but meaningful, as the Corvette Logo! 2016 is over and collector car values have increased by 4.3 percent, according to the Cars On Line 2016 Market Trends Report. The report statistics are taken from auction company results and private sales recorded for 2015 vs 2016. The report shows Chevrolet cars are up 5 percent this year, beating the average.

In Scottsdale last week, preliminary sales show an increase of 3 percent in total sales from $251.8 million in 2016 to $259.4 million this year.

According to Hagerty, a 1967 427/435 4-Speed, has gone from about $163,000 in January of 2015 to $170,000 in January of 2017. This is for a #2 condition with no options. Time to buy, as prices are continuing to climb.

According to Corvette Mike “it was a typical crazy year in the desert of AZ.” and at the Barrett-Jackson auction “over 1700 cars crossed the block over a weeks period of time with a 99% sell-through rate.” [...]

This year’s Barrett Jackson auction saw a mixed variety of ultra high level celebrity auctioned vehicles. Steven Tyler, Floyd Mayweather, Burt Reynolds and Dale Earnhardt just to name a few; all raising money for various charities.

Corvette saw some impressive sales over the weekend.  Below is a brief list of Corvettes that were sold.

  • 1963 CHEVROLET CORVETTE 327/360 SPLIT-WINDOW “FUELIE” Sold for $385,000.00
  • 1964 CHEVROLET CORVETTE LT1 Sold for $330,000
  • 1953 CHEVROLET CORVETTE 235/150 CONVERTIBLE sold for $275,000
  • 1962 CHEVROLET CORVETTE CUSTOM CONVERTIBLE Sold for $264,000
  • 1962 CHEVROLET CORVETTE CUSTOM CONVERTIBLE Sold for $258,500
  • 1963 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 BIG TANK COUPE “MICKEY THOMPSON’S” sold for $247,000
  • 1958 CHEVROLET CORVETTE CUSTOM CONVERTIBLE “EYE CANDY” Sold for $225,500

One lucky bidder acquired Mickey Thompson’s Personal 1963 Tanker Corvette ZO6 this weekend at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona.  This Corvette is one of the most famous 1963 ZO6 Corvette Tankers to ever leave the St. Louis plant.  Otherwise know as a De Facto COPO!

This Corvette was personally owned and driven (with undeniable proof) by the world’s fastest man – MICKEY THOMPSON.

Z06 Tankers are rare indeed with only 63 ever created, but none were street driven by a more famous celebrity!  This white Tanker now makes five that Mickey Thompson owned.

Acquiring a 1963 36 Gallon Big Tank was indeed limited to only a handful of factory and/or private racers. Well, at least the first 15.  But can you imagine being the lucky devil who was able to get more than one.  Perhaps he was known as Mickey Thompson!!!  More than lucky, Mickey was connected.
