General Motors Supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 | Cadillac CTS-V, Chevrolet Corvette Z06
It’s tough not to love any engine that produces 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, especially when its brute force is delivered linearly, predictably, and with the classic Chevy small-block V-8 rumble. And we definitely love the Chevrolet Corvette Z06’s supercharged LT4 V-8, which GM says is among the very lightest and most compact engines capable of such prodigious output. Displacing the same 6.2 liters as the naturally aspirated fifth-generation small-block V-8 that powers regular Corvette Stingray models (more details on that engine here), the LT4 runs a maximum boost of 9.4 psi to produce as much as 200 more horsepower. (Fun fact: The LT4’s Eaton supercharger stuffs four lobes into a 1.74-liter blower.)
The engine’s overall dimensions are barely larger than those of the nonsupercharged Chevy V-8—the blower adds less than one [...]
No, the image above doesn’t seem to be a product of Photoshop, or any other image manipulation software, for that matter. This is actually a Corvette catering to a bomb’s transportation needs.
The photo shows a C4 ‘Vette towing a trailer, which is unusual enough on its own. Nevertheless, we are more worried (no, really, we are) about the cargo.
At first sight, the image, which comes via Corvetteforum, appears to show an aerial bomb, the kind that requires a plane in order to serve its purpose.
Still, there are plenty of reasons for which such a device can’t be there. For one thing, transporting explosive material of this caliber is not exactly legal, simply because it’s not safe. Imagining a crash and its consequences is enough to prove this point.
Then there’s the weight of the thing – we haven’t been running around with a [...]

If you read my recent review of the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, you know it didn’t end well.
Oh, the car was a thrill. With 650 horsepower worth of stomach-churning acceleration, a top speed of over 200 mph and more lateral grip than a wall could provide, it was world class in all respects. Unfortunately, its monstrous, supercharged 6.2-liter V8 performed a dramatic act of self-immolation during some spirited laps at the racetrack.
And now we know why.
After bringing it back to Chevrolet HQ for inspection, the engineers determined that the likely cause was a piston connecting rod bearing that was damaged by debris in the oil that was left behind after tapping the threads for the oil filter. Once a piece gets jammed in there, it starts creating more debris, which keeps making [...]
One of the biggest gripes you hear against the Pebble Beach Concours d’Élégance is that it’s a static car show, with the cars parked on the preternaturally perfect grass of the Pebble Beach golf links, more art objects than automobiles. There is, however, an opportunity to see those cars—most of them, at least—in motion, and that’s on the Tour d’Élégance, which takes place on the Thursday before the Concours.
The Tour sees the cars head out 17-Mile Drive, venture east on Aguajito Road, and trace a square through Carmel Valley, then turning back toward the coast on Carmel Valley Road. Next, they head down Highway 1 for nearly 25 miles to Big Sur before turning around and returning to Carmel. In downtown Carmel, the cars line up on the main drag, Ocean Avenue, where the public is free to mill about, getting a close-up view of the extraordinary machines.
