There have been a lot of spy photos published recently of the C8 mid-engine Corvette being test driven on the street, but not a lot of new information. Well now we have a video of it being tested on the Nürburgring.
The video shows the mid-engine C8 Corvette rounding the famous track; make sure to turn up your speakers. The people we have talked to say it sounds like a turbocharged 4.2-liter V8, just like the rumors say is one of the engine options. It is quieter than the current ZR1, leading us to agree with the turbo idea. Give it a close listen and let us know what you think.
We still know very little about the C8 and this is just one of the test mules we have seen, so there may be other engine optioned C8’s running around, as the rumor mill says there will be engine options at the release.
Well, the last of the summer car auctions just ended and set many new records. At the top of the heap was a 1962 Ferrari 250GTO that fetched a whapping $48,405,000 at RM Sotheby’s, helping RM reach total sales of $157,931,940, a 19% sales increase vs. 2017.
Not to be outdone, the people at Gooding & Co., sold the second highest priced car, a 1935 Duesenberg SSJ that once belonged to actor Gary Cooper and was part of the Briggs Cunningham collection for almost 40 years, for $22 million, setting a record for an American car at auction.
Mecum had a total of 690 cars for sale and sold 360 of them for a total of $44.7 million. Their top dollar car was a 1933 Duesenberg Model J Convertible Coupe Disappearing Top Roadster that sold for $3,850,000.
Preliminary sales numbers, when you add all the auctions up, show that 1376 cars crossed the block, with

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (August 26, 2018) — After an intense competition that drew diverse cars from around the globe, the coveted gold Best of Show ribbon was placed on the deep blue bodywork of a 1937 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Touring Berlinetta at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. It was a match meant to be.
“As a Zagato collector, I broke the rules and bought a Touring-bodied car because this Alfa Romeo is very special,” said longtime entrant David Sydorick of Beverly Hills, California. “It is a piece of automotive architecture mounted on a Grand Prix chassis that has technology that was top of
A rear-mounted flat six engine, with rear-wheel-drive—most people would say this describes the layout of a popular German sports car, but they’d be forgetting the Tucker. The Tucker 48 was the short-lived dream of Preston Tucker, a 1940s visionary who aimed to make “the car of the future, today.”
In all, only 51 Tucker Model 48 Sedans were built, and a dozen of these cars will appear in a first-time feature class at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
In the wake of World War II, the United States auto industry was surviving on cars designed several years before the war. Preston Tucker viewed this as a problem and a challenge; he felt those cars were outdated, unsafe and inefficient. With his Tucker 48, he aimed to catapult the American automobile into the modern era.

The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is renowned as the world’s premiere celebration of automotive history—past, present and future. While the Concours competition field features the world’s greatest collector cars, the Concours concept lawn previews the cars of tomorrow, today. On Concours Sunday, the practice putting green in front of The Lodge at Pebble Beach becomes a looking glass into the future, with about two dozen concepts and new cars on display.
