The 2017 auctions have already seen record sales volumes. Mecum Las Vegas Vintage Motorcycle Auction had astounding results! A 65% higher selling rate than that of last year’s sale. Hard to imagine a motorcycle built at the turn of the last century selling for Over $400,000! And they said, “It might not even Run?”. Needless to say, interest is very high in many types of collectibles. Why not buy/invest in one you can drive? We think it makes sense. American Muscle Cars are continuing to be a strong draw both here in the US and overseas. Buying classic vehicles is not unlike purchasing real estate: buy the best possible one that you can afford because some day, it too will be for sale.
Maybe one of the most impressive offerings in January was at the Barrett-Jackson Sale. If you are active at all in the Corvette hobby, the name Chip Miller is familiar to you. [...]

Tuxedo Black w/Red interior, 427/400hp, automatic.
If you look at Corvette as a whole, from ’53 to ’69. Many would acknowledge that 1969 was the peak year as far as shear performance. Sure, the mid-years (’63-’67) were legendary. And yes, there were a couple good years left after ’69 (’70-’72 LT1 and the LS6 of ’71 come to mind). But, by 1971 the writing was clearly on the wall that the horsepower wars were over (at least for the time being) and the federal government and the insurance companies had won. However, if you were lucky enough to be of legal driving age and had the $green$ to afford one back in ’69, you had a treasure trove of fantastic performance options to choose from! The teething pains of the new “Shark” bodied ’68 had been worked out. And the ’69 presented the perfect low-slung, great handling platform in which to place any of 6 [...]

With less than 17,900 original miles (mileage not indicated on the title), this 427/435hp L71 Convertible is comprehensively matching-numbers. It wears 100% of its original, factory-applied Marlboro Maroon lacquer finish over a black interior and matching hard top.
A true survivor in every sense of the term, the car rolls on its original factory Uniroyal non-DOT-marked rubber, exhales through its original factory exhaust and retains its original belts, hoses, and even its original spark plug wires after 43 years. With a rare and desirable Tri-Power, solid-lifter big-block V8 engine, the car sports the desirable Muncie M21 close ratio 4-speed manual transmission, the optional 3.55:1-ratio rear axle with posi-traction limited-slip differential and transistorized ignition.
It’s also equipped with Gymkhana heavy-duty suspension, a refinished auxiliary hardtop, and the under-car off-road exhausts. It also has the rare AM/FM radio and the unusual and original 7.75×15″ white-stripe tires.
