Corvette was celebrating its 50th Anniversary in ’03, so all of the models (Coupe, Convertible and ZO6) had special 50th Anniversary emblems on the nose and rear deck.
This beautiful example came to us from a client up in CO. It’s essentially a one owner car that has been very well maintained with a clean Carfax. It’s nicely optioned with 1SB Preferred Equipment Group, Active Handling, F55 Magnetic Selective Ride Control, Delco/Bose audio system w/12 disc CD changer, polished aluminum wheels and body side moldings. The transition from the ’60 to ’61 Corvette was at first glance subtle, but noticeable. And from the back, a bit of a preview of what was to come in ’63. Gone was the rounded back end, replaced with a more angular “ducktail” look with two round tail lights on each side. This tail light motif would be a staple of Corvette design all the way up until the present seventh generation changed to a rectangle shape. The front end was like the ’60, with one major exception; the grille “teeth” were gone. The result was a sleeker and more refined look overall. The drivetrain basically carried over from the previous year. This was the last year for the 283ci engine and the last year for “dual quad” carbs. So, you could say the ’61 was a milestone year for Corvette!
