The Corvette Z06 Convertible Will Pace the 107th Indianapolis 500.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Chevrolet announced on Tuesday that the 2023 Corvette Z06 Convertible will be pacing the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 28th, making it the 20th time a Corvette has led the field for the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing!”
“As we celebrate the rich history of the Corvette Pace Car at IMS, it’s amazing to see the evolution of these cars on and off the track,” IMS President J. National Council of Corvette Clubs Reverses Ban on C8 E-Ray Hybrid.
The National Council of Corvette Clubs had banned all hybrids and EVs from competition. But now, the E-Ray will be allowed.
The National Council of Corvette Clubs (NCCC) came under fire from all corners of the internet when it was released that the hybridized Corvette E-Ray would be banned from competing or participating in its sponsored events and shows. The National Council of Corvette Clubs misunderstanding of lithium-ion, leads them to ban “Electric Vehicles/Hybrids using lithium type battery packs” from all events. The new rule also says that “they should be parked 30 feet minimum from structures or other vehicles.” (section 1.8 subsection 1 item 14). This applies to events including “Speed Events” (autocross, drag racing, time trials on road course racetracks, and matching times precise acceleration tests), “Funkhana” (an autocross event with goofy challenges), road rallies, fuel economy challenges, and concourse car shows. That means the E-Ray isn’t just banned from track days, it’s banned from events driven on public roads and parking lot car shows if the event is sanctioned by the NCCC.
This new rule means that if you buy an E-Ray, ZR-1, or Zora, not only will you be banned from participating in any NCCC events, you can’t even park near
