Corvette Plant Safe

You may have heard the news that GM is closing 5 plants, and that the global workforce of salaried and salaried contract workers will be cut by 15 percent, including a 25 percent cut in GM executives; an estimated cut of 14,000 jobs.

The good news is that the Corvette plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky is not among the five plants set to cease production next year.

Like Ford announced a few months ago, GM is calling the closing of the five plants a “transformation”, and in its corporate announcement, said the company is going to focus on trucks, crossovers, SUVs and electric vehicles.

The GM plants to be closed are in Maryland and Ohio, as well as two in Michigan and one in Canada. Those plants produce sedans, as well as the Chevy Cruze compact and [...]

Ken Naber
Dear Friends,

It is with a heavy heart that we are letting you know that Ken Naber passed away unexpectedly last week. Ken was a long time Bloomington Gold Judge and part owner of the renowned Naber Brothers Restoration shop of Houston Tx.

The Naber Brother’s started working on Corvettes at the ripe young age of 10 and 18, back in 1957. Ken was the oldest of the two brothers but from the beginning they both took care of other people’s Corvettes. In 1963, Ken Naber bought a Gulf service station and simultaneously bought a 1963 Corvette coupe with a damaged left quarter panel, officially starting their Corvette repair business.

The business flourished from a general repair shop to one exclusively for Corvettes, servicing thousands of cars over the years. In 1986, the Naber [...]

hp wars
A few weeks back, we told you that GM was going to offer the 2019 ZR1 engine for sale in a crate form. Well SEMA is this week and GM did indeed show off the crate LT5 installed in a 1973 Chevrolet Chevelle Laguna. The price of the LT5 has also been announced, $17,915.00. Not bad for a drop-in and play 755hp!

Not to be outdone, Dodge has announced a crate engine with 1,000-hp. They have named this beast the Hellephant, a 426-cubic-inch (7.0L), 3.0-liter twin-screw supercharged, V8. The name comes from the muscle car days 426 engine Dodge called the Elephant, because of its size and weight, and the current Hellcat engine; hence the Hellephant moniker.

And then Specialty Vehicle Engineering showed off their LT1 based Stage I (835-hp) and Stage II (1,000-hp) offerings. As [...]

ebay 1

This was a wild year of racing in the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship. The GT class was very competitive, with the #3 Corvette unable to win a single race. But as usual, the Corvette was ultra-reliable and even able to continue racing after some mishaps. This allowed the #3 Corvette C.7R of Jan Magnussen, Antonio Garcia, Mike Rockenfeller and Marcel Fassler to accumulate enough points to narrowly beat out the 2nd place #67 Ford GT of Ryan Briscoe, Richard Westbrook and reigning IndyCar champion Scott Dixon.

All the cars in the GT class brought vastly different approaches to design to make this a very diverse race year. The Corvette C.7R had its naturally aspirated V8, Ford with EcoBoost twin-turbo V6, Porsche with a re-arranged mid-engined flat-six, BMW with their long wheel-based twin-turbo V8 and Ferrari with their 488 GTE.

As mentioned above, the #3 [...]
