The Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance presented by Rolex is an annual driving event that delights entrants and spectators alike.

Initiated to showcase the elegance of the automobile in motion, the Tour also underscores the early history of the place that is Pebble Beach. Decades before golf links were laid out along the edge of the Pacific Ocean, this area was known for its scenic drive, winding for miles through the pine and cypress forest, dancing alongside dramatic cliffs and leading, ultimately, to a beautiful crescent-shaped bay.

The traditional Tour traces portions of the original 17-Mile Drive, traverses nearby mountains and valleys, and pauses for a time in charming Carmel-by-the-Sea. Tour participants enjoy a catered gourmet lunch, a champagne celebration at the finish and commemorative gifts.

In late May, General Motors and its Chevrolet brand announced that its first 2016 cars equipped with CarPlay would be available later this year. Less than a month after the announcement, the first Chevy CarPlay vehicle, a silver Corvette Z06, has rolled off the production line. Chevy shared images of the maiden Corvette with TechCrunch, and told the site its Corvette Z06 vehicles are now heading to dealerships and consumers.

Chevy’s Corvette Z06 is the second vehicle with CarPlay that’s actually available for consumers to purchase, following the Ferarri FF. The Ferarri FF has been the only vehicle sold with built-in CarPlay support since CarPlay was announced in March of 2014, but the service has also been available to consumers through aftermarket solutions from companies like Alpine and Pioneer.

John Grafelman dreamt of owning the long-lost 1969 Ford Mustang owned by Larry Shinoda, not knowing he already bought it in 1976.

John Grafelman bleeds Ford blue. He says he is “always looking for old Fords.” He remembers reading as far back as the early ’80s about the long-lost 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302 prototype once owned by car designer Larry Shinoda. Now, wouldn’t that be a Mustang to find?

Incredibly, this hardworking farmer from Peoria, Illinois, already owned that very Mustang. Unbeknownst to him, the ’69 Cobra Jet fastback he bought through an ad in the local newspaper was that very car.

“The fellow I bought it from was an elderly person,” says John. “He told me that this car had some Ford history.”

The seller made no mention of the car’s prototype background. The Cobra Jet fastback’s unique features could have easily been lost in the hands of either a restorer or a [...]
