At Auction On BaT

Welcome, Corvette enthusiasts and collectors! We are thrilled to present what we firmly believe to be the finest 1963 Split Window Coupe ever offered on Bring a Trailer—or anywhere else. This isn’t just a car; it’s an icon, a piece of history, and a true investment-grade collectible.

Unmatched Pedigree & Provenance:
Corvette Mike acquired this Tuxedo Black beauty directly from the original owner’s widow in Norco, CA. Her late husband purchased the car brand new from Selman Chevrolet in Orange, CA—a dealership still in operation today! This is a one-owner car with an unrepeatable history, making it one of the most significant Split Window Coupes available today.

The most desirable 1963 Corvette Configuration and factory-built, with the best specs of its era.

This car features:
327/340 HP Solid Lifter V8 – C.C.A.S. Certified, original to the car
T-10 4-Speed Manual Transmission – For the purest driving experience
3.36 Posi-Traction Rear End – The perfect balance of performance & drivability
Tuxedo Black Exterior / Black Interior – An ultra-rare and stunning combination

A Corvette Mike Legacy – The Journey to Perfection:
Corvette Mike’s connection to this ’63 dates back to 1987 when he first laid eyes on it. Over the years, he stayed in touch with the owner, hoping to one day acquire it. That day came when the widow called with the sad news of her husband’s passing, and Mike knew he had to honor this car’s legacy.

Peter Brock, the renowned automotive designer and author, had been captivated by cars from a young age. His fascination with design and aerodynamics led him to join General Motors in the ’50s, where he found himself at the forefront of automotive innovation. The Sting Ray project was a turning point, a canvas where he could blend artistry with engineering.

The genesis of the Sting Ray wasn’t just about crafting a car; it was about challenging conventions. During the Wynn Concours, Mike met up with Peter and reminisced about the bold decisions—the split rear window, the iconic side vents, and the streamlined silhouette that made the Sting Ray instantly recognizable.

As Peter went through his book with Mike, a sense of pride washed over him. The Sting Ray wasn’t just a car but a legacy—a testament to innovation and the pursuit of greatness. It had left an indelible mark on automotive history, a legacy that inspired generations of enthusiasts.

Exclusive to Thundering Thursday readers, we’re offering Peter’s book at a low price of $40 per book plus shipping and handling of $14.85.

John E’s 1962

When I came home from Vietnam in 1967, I bought a red 1962 Corvette. I kept it a while and then sold it to a friend. He kept it until 1995 and sold it at the Barrett – Jackson auto auction. The St. Louis cardinal organization bought it and gave it to Mark McGuire when he hit 62 home runs.

I have since had 7 more Corvettes over the years including a red 2021 Corvette retractable that I now drive.

All I have left of the 1962 is a picture of when they gave it to McGuire and a model on the shelf. My son would like to buy the 1962 back from Mark McGuire. Anyone know how to get ahold of him?

John E.

This 1982 Chevrolet Corvette was sold new at Kelsay-Blacklock Chevrolet of Brownfield, Texas, and was stored in the original owner’s garage for decades following a severe leg injury.
