Corvette Racing closed out the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in dominating fashion at Petit Le Mans, sweeping all three GTD PRO titles!

At Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, the No. 3 Corvette Z06 GT3.R, driven by Antonio Garcia and Alexander Sims, clinched the Drivers, Teams, and Manufacturers Championships for Chevrolet and Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports.

A strong runner-up finish from the No. 4 Corvette Z06 GT3.R of Tommy Milner, Nicky Catsburg, and Nico Varrone helped seal Chevrolet’s 15th GT class title, and its first in GTD PRO.

The No. 3 car earned nine podiums this season, including a win at VIR, while Garcia celebrated his sixth IMSA championship and Sims his second, both adding to Corvette’s unmatched legacy.

This marks the 13th time Corvette Racing has swept all three GT championships, Manufacturers, Drivers, and Teams, in a single season.

Next up: Corvette Z06 GT3.R teams take the fight global in GT World Challenge America, European Le Mans, and FIA WEC competition.

George K.

My infatuation with the Corvette brand dates back to 1953 when on a visit to Dr. Robert Pratt, our family physician in Williamsville, New York, I saw his brand-new Polo White Corvette parked on the street outside his office. I was taken by the flowing shape of the car and the mesh headlight covers and dual exhausts that gave it the look of a race car.

My dad’s good friend was the owner of a dealership named for him, Glen Campbell Chevrolet. When I caddied for him at the country club of Buffalo. I would always ask him about Corvettes and their various engines. As a young teenager, I would ride my bike to his dealership and watch new Corvettes being unloaded from the transporters. I studied the window stickers looking for the high-performance dual quad or fuel-injection engines and made mental notes of the horsepower ratings, transmission, and axle ratios. I was hooked for sure but thought I would never be able to afford America’s Sportscar.

In October 1959 my parents traveled to Europe for an extended vacation and arranged for me to stay with close family friends. I had just gotten my driver’s license, so Mom asked me to take her 1956 Chevrolet in for service while they were away. After leaving her car with the service manager, I stopped by Mr. Campbell’s office in the showroom and he asked if I would like a loaner car for the weekend. This 17-year-old car nut of course said yes and he promptly handed me the keys to a brand new 1961 triple black 315/283 Corvette fuelie with a full tank of gas. Readers will be spared the details of that humorous weekend but needless to say it was a true adventure. I have been a fuelie addict ever since, having owned and restored four of them, in addition to a couple of dozen other Corvette variants.

1964 Big Tank Fuelie Coupe
Hall Of Fame Inducted
Black with Silver Interior

This car was ordered by Ed Sullivan, a GM employee in the Marketing Section, from Luby Chevrolet in Denver, Colorado, around Christmas of 1963. He wanted a ’64 version of the Z06 he already owned, but with a reverse color scheme: black over silver instead of silver over black. The car was built on February 27, 1964, and delivered to him on March 6, 1964. Production had been delayed while waiting for special-order parts, and Ed even received a letter from St. Louis apologizing for the delay. By the time he took delivery, he had relocated to El Paso, Texas.

By September 1964, Ed listed the car for sale in Road & Track, running ads until late 1965. He was unable to sell it at the price he wanted. The car resurfaced in 1975, catching the attention of California racer Jack Murray. By then, Ed had moved to Oregon, and the car showed just 12,657 carefully accumulated miles.

When Jack inspected it, the car was sitting outside under a thin cover. The paint was checked and oxidized, but overall not in bad shape. In January 1976, Jack purchased the car and brought it to Southern California, where it was garaged. He displayed it at Bloomington events from 1987 through 1995, and in 1999 it was inducted into the Bloomington Hall of Fame. That same year, Jack attempted to sell it at the Road America auction, where bidding reached $225,000 but fell short. In September 2000, it went on display at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, as part of the Concours d’Performance Exhibit.

Jack eventually sold the car for a record price, higher than any other ’64 Tanker had achieved. In February 2002, its new owner commissioned a complete body-off-frame restoration under Gary Naber in Houston. The project lasted about a year, carefully restoring original parts wherever possible while leaving the interior untouched, which remains original to this day.

This Big Tank has always been lovingly referred to as the Jack Murray Tanker, the best one ever discovered. RIP Jack

Today, it proudly resides in the showroom lobby of my dealership in Anaheim, California.

Who will be its next caretaker?
