The National Corvette Museum Board of Directors is actively seeking a new CEO following the departure of Sharon Brawner, who served as president and CEO until earlier this month. In the interim, Bryce Burklow is fulfilling the role of Chief Operating Officer until a permanent successor is appointed.

Kaye Wagner, Chair of the Board, expressed the commitment to advancing the search for new leadership while maintaining the museum’s legacy and connections to staff, donors, members, and the Corvette community. In a message to the “members of the Corvette Community,” Wagner emphasized the importance of continuing the museum’s progress of the past 30 years.

Wagner highlighted the museum’s achievements, including expanding exhibits, educational programs, enhancing visitor experiences, and hosting memorable events. She credited this progress to the collective efforts of the entire community, including staff, volunteers, donors, members, and Corvette enthusiasts worldwide.

The board, working closely with museum staff, aims to establish criteria for the new CEO that respects the museum’s history while aligning with the desires and direction of stakeholders. Wagner encouraged members of the Corvette community to share their thoughts, ideas, and visions for the future of the NCM with board members, recognizing their invaluable input during this transition period.

Expressing gratitude for enthusiasts’ support and trust, Wagner expressed optimism for the museum’s future milestones. She emphasized the role of the National Corvette Museum as a home for those passionate about Corvettes, affirming the collective commitment to honoring heritage while embracing the future.

George’s 1963

When I was a Senior in High School I told all my friends by time I graduate I will have my dream car, a Corvette, this was in 1973, and the year of the Corvette wasn’t that important. So I placed an ad in our local “Trader” newspaper. Will Swap ’62 Volvo for Corvette. (Volvo was beat and my daily driver, valued at around $700).

A week later I get a phone call from a guy who has a 1963 his son didn’t want it. So he wants to see my Volvo. Next day a 1963 Saddle/Saddle Convertible pulls into our driveway. Owner looks at Volvo, asks to take it for a spin. He comes back and tells me I like it. If you like the Corvette I’ll do it for the Volvo and $500. I had all I could do to hide my excitement and told him sure, and he says OK, how about I come back next week.

NO, how about we go to my bank right now and to Motor Vehicle to swap titles, and off we went. At the time I was making $35 a week after school and had right around $600 in bank, enough to pay him and register my new Corvette!

Next day I drove it to school and you can imagine the remarks.

So, 50 years later, it’s still in my Garage. I trailered it from NJ to WA when I moved in ’86.

It was my daily driver in NJ and has been rode hard and put away wet the first 10-12 or so years of ownership, rain, snow, street raced, and fully enjoyed. Did the Car Show scene back in late ’80’s early 90’s and have won 7 trophies with it.

At one point I had a dual high rise tunnel ram with BDS scoop and Nitro on it with a cut out ’67 hood.

Unfortunately the 1st year I owned I replaced the Engine with new one because the old one was blowing oil and back then most were not thinking of future values. BUT every other part that was ever taken off car I kept ,and 2 years ago I restored it back to original (less engine). Put in a 383 Stroker, changed the old vinyl seat to new leather and had a new paint job done. When I got it the car had Cragar Mags, but owner had the original hubcaps which I still have wrapped up as I received in ’74. After I took off the Cragars when engine was done, its always had KO wheel on it.

Still drive it every weekend, weather permitting but treat it with a little more respect now.

George
