1948 Tucker 48

Gooding Christie’s is proud to offer selections from the collection of Francis Ford Coppola, the revered filmmaker credited for The Godfather trilogy and Apocalypse Now. Mr. Coppola directed and released the 1988 film, Tucker: The Man and His Dream, detailing the story of Preston Tucker and his motor company pitted against the monopolous power of the Big Three automakers in post-WWII America. His interest in Tucker went beyond the movie screen, and he retained this 1948 Tucker 48. Featured extensively throughout the film, this car, number 14 of the 50 examples built in total, is one of just 12 Tuckers originally finished in #200 Waltz Blue Metallic. Since 1988, this Tucker has served as the centerpiece of Mr. Coppola’s collection, driven occasionally and displayed at Inglenook, the family’s renowned Napa Valley winery.
