2020 C8’s Nurburgring lap time revealed
Earlier this week Chevy released a trailer for a new documentary about the C8’s development, which was full of seemingly innocuous beauty shots of the ‘Vette and interviews with employees. But about two-thirds of the way through the trailer there’s a panning shot of the Nürburgring race track, and “painted” on the track is a lap time. That time reads 7:29.9, and it’s legit. The lap time was set by Oliver Gavin, a five-time Le Mans-winning driver for the Corvette Racing team.
A Chevy spokesperson said in a statement that the uncertified time was set last summer by a new Corvette with the optional Z51 Performance Package. Because if you’re gonna have someone set a lap time at the ‘Ring with your radical new sports car, it might as well be a decorated race car driver, right? In a tweet that also includes the documentary trailer, Gavin said he had “a great time behind the wheel” and that Chevy “even let me set a lap time!”
A lap time of 7:29.9 is a great starting point for the new Corvette. This time is just barely off the Camaro ZL1 time of 7:29.6, and in range of other supercars. Keep in mind that this is just the 1st version of the new Corvette and we know there are higher performance versions on the way. And given that this time is uncertified and likely set by a prototype, we may see quicker lap times from the standard C8 Corvette in the future.
To coincide with the C8’s long-awaited start of production, Chevy is announcing it has produced a two-part documentary that tells the story of how the all-new sports car was born. Due to be released in the coming months, “Revolution – The Mid-Engine Corvette Development Story” will go through the engineering process as explained by those who were directly involved in the development phase. Needless to say, we’re expecting to find out some juicy tidbits about what went on during the C8’s road to production.

The Very last 1955 produced
First, it should be stated that only 700 Corvettes were produced in ’55. Second in rarity only to the ‘53’s at only 300. Of the 700 produced, only the last 25 were 3 spd. manual transmission cars. All the rest were 2 spd. Powerglide automatics. The 1955 presented here happens to be the very last ‘55 Corvette produced! And #700 was the very last body in the 1st generation series from ‘53, ‘54 and ‘55 Corvettes!
