When the sixth generation Corvette was introduced as an ’05 model, it was a huge hit with the public and press alike. Chevrolet got just about everything right with the car. And when the new ZO6 was introduced the following year, it didn’t take long to see that a major home run had been achieved. The ZO6 featured a 505hp small block 427 under its carbon fiber hood along with a 6-spd. manual transaxle, aluminum Hydro-Formed frame, special brakes and suspension and tires. And it was a monster! Complaints about the car were few and far between. However, one was the fact that it didn’t come in a Convertible! Because of the very high performance nature of the ZO6, it wasn’t available [...]
GM is selling some of their in-house collection of Corvettes at Barrett-Jackson this week. At its sale in Palm Beach starting today, Barrett-Jackson will be auctioning off no fewer than ten factory Corvettes (plus another handful of vehicles) from Chevy’s own stockpile and the GM Heritage Collection.
The oldest among them is a 1990 C4 prototype set up in right-hand drive to evaluate potential export to the UK, Japan, and Australia. There’s a 1993 C4 LT1 convertible with matching interior trim and the underside of the hood signed by all the assembly-line workers. And another ’94 C4 equipped with a giant 572-cubic-inch (9.4-liter) crate engine.
They’re joined by a yellow, C6-based Pacific concept with all manner of carbon-fiber components and other upgrades. There’s also a 2016 Stingray and five Z06s showcased at various events across the country – including several with low VINs.
It’s not all [...]

“To craft the finest automobiles in America” – This was the brief of Ford’s short-lived Continental Division. Luminaries such as Duesenberg, Cord and Peerless were long gone, and Ford’s not-insubstantial order was a direct shot at knocking Packard and Cadillac off their pedestals as the remaining premier American marques. The first Continental that debuted was the 1956 Mark II; while this premium luxury coupe was not the sales success that it was hoped to be, it became one of the most influential designs of the decade, famous both for what it was and for what it wasn’t. Lincoln dealerships had been inquiring about a replacement for the Continental from the time production stopped, so in 1952, the Ford Motor Company conducted research to determine whether a market for such a premium car existed; they decided [...]

The best of the last! That’s what the ’62 Corvette is often referred to. By ’62, first generation production was coming to an end after 11 years. The designers and engineers a the St Louis plant had taken the C1 about as far as they could in its current configuration. A new Corvette was on the horizon for ’63 and excitement was brewing for the first ever Corvette Coupe that was due to be introduced along with the next generation Convertible. But there was still a few surprises in store for those who chose to purchase a ’62. First was the overall clean and uncluttered appearance of the ’62’s exterior. Those venerable side coves were still in place, but the stainless surrounding it was gone. And you could no longer get it in a [...]
