When the sixth generation Corvette was introduced as an ’05 model, it was a huge hit with the public and press alike. Chevrolet got just about everything right with the car. And when the new ZO6 was introduced the following year, it didn’t take long to see that a major home run had been achieved. The ZO6 featured a 505hp small block 427 under its carbon fiber hood along with a 6-speed manual transaxle, aluminum Hydro-Formed frame, special brakes and suspension and tires. And it was a monster!

Three weeks of auctions just finished up and over 4,300 cars, worth over $320.3m, have been sold! This number will go higher, as three auction houses have not reported their sales from last week’s auctions yet!

- 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Cutaway Coupe Sold for $1,100,000!
- Gooding and Company in Scottsdale, AZ sold 131 cars worth $49m.
- 1963 Chevrolet Corvette 327/300 SWC Sold for $143,000.
- RM Sotheby in Scottsdale, AZ sold 129 cars worth $36.5m.
- 1966 Shelby 427 Cobra Sold for $2,947,500
- Bonhams in Scottsdale, AZ sold 111 cars worth $25.2m.

While much of the U.S. was preparing for the nation’s bicentennial festivities to commence on July 4, 1976, other notable dates were taking place in the months before the big 200th birthday celebration. Wednesday, April 21, 1976 was a sunny spring day in Detroit. A Cotillion White 1976 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado was proceeding down the assembly line at Cadillac’s Clark Avenue plant, as many convertibles had done in the years before. But this one was different. All along the way, plant workers were posing to have their picture taken with the car. Most muscle car aficionados would agree that the peak of performance came between the years 1969 and 1970. It was almost comical how powerful the cars coming from the Big Three were in those days! But, as powerful as these beasts were, both on the street and strip, they were little match for the federal government and insurance companies of the era!
