NCCC Competition Un-Bans E-Ray From All Events

National Council of Corvette Clubs Reverses Ban on C8 E-Ray Hybrid.

The National Council of Corvette Clubs had banned all hybrids and EVs from competition. But now, the E-Ray will be allowed.

The National Council of Corvette Clubs (NCCC) came under fire from all corners of the internet when it was released that the hybridized Corvette E-Ray would be banned from competing or participating in its sponsored events and shows. Following a significant amount of backlash, NCCC has released a new statement acknowledging another adjusted rule set that allows the E-Ray to compete.

As a reminder, the old rule read: Electric Vehicles/Hybrids using lithium type battery packs are prohibited in competitive events. If driven to NCCC events, they should be parked 30 feet minimum from structures or other vehicles.

Even though the rule clearly states “Electric Vehicles/Hybrids using lithium type battery packs”, NCCC president Deb Murphy said that we all misunderstood the original rule. More specifically, Murphy states that hybrid vehicles were never meant to get caught up in the ban, but rather just pure electric vehicles.

“I would like to clarify the discussion at the November meeting compared to what has appeared across the media: Discussion concerned the electric cars (plug-in kind) that have caught fire,” Murphy said in a statement. “We did not include hybrid cars in that discussion. Hybrids are allowed at our competitions and E-Rays will be welcomed at our events.” Chevrolet has stated that it will be producing all-electric cars in the future, it is not clear if the NCCC will soften up on all-electric cars in the future or not.

Some of Bill A.’s Corvettes

When I was 16 I got to ride in a brand new silver coupe, never forgot it. I grew up with the straight axles, I always think a Corvette must have a fabric top and round taillights. I have had several of all of them, today I drive a red fabric top 2010 Corvette GS convertible, had it over 11 years, bought it with 7,500 miles, has 55,000 now. Also have a white 2013 60th Anniversary 427 convertible with 12,000 miles, have it mainly for shows.

Enjoy your emails, I remember meeting Corvette Mike in 1989 at Bloomington corvette show, he has done good!

Black with Black interior, L82 350/210hp, 3-speed automatic.

Back in ’77, Corvettes at Twin City Chevrolet in Gas City, IN. were on an allocation system. And all of the cars were always presold. But in this particular case, they were able to order a unit for inventory for the first time. The owner of the dealership wasn’t sure which options to get, so he enlisted the help of his stepson, who was a Corvette aficionado. It was decided that it had to be Black because that color was being offered for the first time since ’69! A Black leather interior was also chosen along with the high performance L82 engine, Air Conditioning, power windows, Cruise Control, Sport Mirrors, AM/FM Stereo, Tilt/Telescopic Steering Column, Aluminum Wheels and more!
