Only ~10,600 Corvette split window coupes were ever built, only ~2,600 had the high performance L84 option with the desirable 360hp Fuel Injected 327 V8 with 4 Speed and 4.11 Posi-traction. And very few had it complimented with the red-on-red color combination.
This is truly a very rare US Sports Car Legend commonly regarded as one of the most highly collectable muscle cars of its Era.
The most recent owner had this car for approximately 3.5 years and had spent most of the last 2 years in restoration with the ambition to mirror the condition and appearance on how the car originally rolled out from the factory in St. Louis on May 31, 1963.
The restoration had been led by the owner who has spent the more than 20 years restoring classic Corvettes and has managed to restore about 10 Corvettes to the highest Top Flight N.C.R.S. standards. This is probably his last restoration and probably the best and most desirable car that he has ever restored.
To achieve his goals for this car, the owner had collaborated and contracted with the best and most experienced restorers in the industry and includes a rigorous body off frame restoration with the original single stage paint process. Each component, including nuts and bolts, has been restored to the highest standards.
The Fuel Injection System, Engine, Transmission, Rear Axle have been fully disassembled, cleaned, restored and rebuilt to the highest standards. The engine has received new pistons, hardened valve seats, complete balancing. The 4.11 rear axle had been rebuilt and has the original Posi- traction case but with 3.55 gears, to make this a very nice driver as well as a high-performance car.
As an ultimate proof of the quality of this car, it received the prestigious Bloomington Gold Certificate on June 11, 2022, only 2 weeks after the completed restoration. It scored really high with only 200 points deducted, compared to maximum allowed Gold Certification deductions of 426. The owner estimates that this represents about 98% of starting points of judging, which percentage is not disclosed in the judging sheets. Operationally, the car combines the original configuration with the highest quality of restoration. The Bloomington Gold judging team only give the car one deduction under the operational section judging, a stuck door lock knob. The car is an excellent operationally and very fun to drive.
Even though the engine casting and VIN numbers with dates on the block matches the numbers and dates on the Car VIN Tag, the owner elected to declare the engine a NON-OEM engine, so the engine stampings and casting numbers were not officially judged. The owner did NOT represent that this engine was originally delivered with the car, however the owner was 100% convinced that this car originally came from the factory with the current color combination and the 2L84A – 360HP Fuel Injected 327 V8.
The Bloomington Award, as well as all judging sheets will be delivered with the car. The car comes with the correct set of original tools.
