Black w/Black interior, 396/350hp big block, 4-speed manual transmission.
Recognized by muscle car enthusiasts everywhere as the high-water mark in style and performance; the ’70 Chevelle SS 396 & SS 454 were Kings of the street and strip back when competition was fierce from the “Big Three”. The Chevelle was introduced in ’64, and the SS model followed in ’65. From there, things just got bigger and badder with each passing year, until the pinnacle was reached with the introduction of the re-bodied Chevelle for ’70. The car became an instant classic! Everything was just right, from its muscular, yet elegant body lines to its understated yet functional interior. But what everyone was most interested in was what was under the hood. The mighty 396 continued into ’70. However, the actual cubic inches increased to 402. The addition of the 454 was eagerly anticipated and with it came the ultimate . . . the legendary LS6!
This beautifully restored SS396 is one of the finest examples you will ever see! As everyone is well aware, Black is one of (if not, the) most highly sought-after colors for a Chevelle, Corvette, Camaro etc. The problem is, unless the body of the car itself is absolutely arrow-straight, you will see every flaw, every dent and every ding! Well, we’ve looked over this example very carefully. And we can’t remember the last time we saw one as flawless as this! The paint is absolutely stunning on a laser-straight body! It’s positively sinister!
A correct #’s matching 396/350hp big block sits comfortably under the (properly functioning) Cowl Induction hood and it’s bolted up to an M20 4-spd. The engine has been “messaged” a bit with a high-rise aluminum intake manifold (the original cast iron unit is included in the sale), headers, performance exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers and some other goodies. Those features alone would usually be enough to satisfy most diehard muscle heads. But wait! There’s more! This one is LOADED with options including (cold) factory air conditioning, P/B (front discs), P/S, tinted glass all the way around, F41 suspension (augmented by a larger sway bar in the front and various other Hotchkis components), 3.31 Posi rear end, full gauges, SS steering wheel, Strato Bucket seats, w/console, stock 14″ SS wheels wrapped in fat BFG radial rubber, and some other stuff! It also happens to be a fantastic driver! And that’s really what’s it’s all about, isn’t it? Fun factor . . . 11!
And to top it all off with a cherry, the car is documented with two Build Sheets! Chevelle freaks, this is the car to own!
