After 14 years, production of the C3 Corvette or Shark, as they were affectionately known came to an end with the ’82 model. The new Bowling Green assembly plant had just open the previous year and for the first time all new Corvettes were being built there.
To send off the 3rd generation Corvette with a bang, a Commemorative Edition was introduced. This model featured special Silver Beige exterior and matching interior along with special wheels, emblems and an opening rear hatch. The only rear hatch ever to be offered on a Shark and exclusive to the C.E.. This particular model was a rousing success! It also had the distinction of being the first Corvette to break the $20k M.S.R.P. barrier! But, as is often the case with “Special Edition” models, many were built and sold, 6759 to be exact or about 25% of production totals. Besides the C.E., there were many different colors and color combinations offered in ’82. Some rarer and more desirable than others. And in hindsight, if you had to rank desirability vs. rarity, one color that comes to mind is Silver Green. This was a one year only color that was similar to Mosport Green that was offered on the ’66 Corvette. It was striking, elegant and rare as only 723 were built in ’82. It’s definitely a color you don’t see very often. But when you do, you remember it!
Mike had been on a quest to find an outstanding example of a Silver Green ’82. There were some near-misses, but after years of trying, he finally located one in our own backyard here in So. Cal! Purchased from it’s original owner, this pristine example has only accumulated a little over 24k miles since new. And highlighted by its matching interior, is absolutely beautiful throughout!
