Black w/Red interior, LT-5 350/375hp Twin Cam V8, 6-spd. manual transmission.
In 1970 a special version of the Corvette LT-1 was introduced. RPO ZR1 got you the LT-1 and along with it, an M22 heavy duty 4-spd. transmission, heavy duty power brakes, transistorized ignition, aluminum radiator, special springs, shocks and stabilizer bars. This was essentially a “race car” for the streets.
Spring ahead 20 years to the 4th generation Corvette. Introduced in ’84, sales were going strong after 6 years in production. But the powers that be at GM felt that something very special was needed to give America’s sports car a shot of adrenalin. The answer was a Lotus/Chevrolet designed, Mercury Marine built, all-aluminum 32 valve, twin cam small block V8 producing 375hp!
Befitting the new Corvette’s soon to be legendary status, Chevy decided to dust off the ZR-1 nameplate and bestow it on this new Supercar!
And to solidify its status, a group of Corvette enthusiasts took two former development vehicles out and attempted to break the 24hr. World Speed Endurance Record, once set by Ab Jenkins in 1940. The results were impressive, to say the least!
100 miles @ 175.600 mph
500 miles @175.703 mph
1000 miles @ 174.428 mph
5000 miles @ 175.710 mph
5000 miles @172.791 mph
24-hour Word Endurance Record @175.885 mph
The ’90 ZR-1 highlighted here is a Black exterior/Red interior (a combo not often seen) example with only 1,800 original miles! It came from a collector client who meticulously maintained the Corvette until we acquired it! We’re excited to offer this time capsule for sale!
