1996 Admiral Blue Corvette Grand Sport Coupe
N.C.R.S. Top Flight Award winner!$39,900
Admiral Blue w/Black interior, LT4 350/330hp, 6-spd. manual transmission.
When C4 production finally came to an end in ’96 after 12 years, Chevrolet knew they had to send it off with a bang, not a whimper. And since the ZR-1 was discontinued in ’95, there was definitely a void that needed to be filled! So, it was decided that not one, but two special edition Corvettes word be introduced to give the C4 a proper sendoff!
The first was the Collector Edition. It was offered in Sebring Silver with a choice of either Black, Red of Gray interior. It came with special chrome C.E. badging on the fenders, wheel centers and seats and was basically loaded. But, the really special edition came in the form of an Admiral Blue Grand Sport! Taking its name from the legendary racing Grand Sports of the early ’60’s, the ’96 G.S. certainly had big shoes to fill! But, with a hot-rodded LT-4 engine, it certainly got the job done on the street!. It had higher compression than the LT-1, newly designed aluminum heads, Crane roller rocker arms and a revised camshaft profile, along with some additional tweaks to give it 330hp. That was 30 more than the LT-1. The LT-4 was only available with a 6-spd. manual transmission. It was available in either a Coupe or Convertible and only 1000 total units were built. Making it the rarest special edition C4 ever offered! What set the Coupe apart from the Convertible was the mini flares on the rear fenders, made necessary because of the huge rear 315/35ZR17 tires. Other features were White stripes down the center of the body, Red hash marks over the left front fender, Black 5-spoke ZR-1 style wheels, chrome Grand Sport badging and embroidery on the seats. A fitting “last hurrah” for the venerable C4!
This absolutely beautiful Grand Sport came to us from a local client. We sold him the car, but a growing collection and very little space necessitated he reluctantly pass it along to its next care taker. It’s in show condition throughout and is a high scoring N.C.R.S. Top Flight Award winner! These G.S.’s have always been popular, but we’ve noticed a recent upsurge in activity. So, if you’ve dreamed about having one of these striking Corvettes in your garage, it might be time to go for it! Prices are rising and this is one of the good ones!
