The next morning, everything was gone.

“The first thing that went through my mind is I walked through the wrong door,” Fischbach said. “When I realized I didn’t walk through the wrong door, I thought the hotel must have had it towed… When they told me they didn’t tow it, I knew somebody stole it. My next call was 911.”

The Corvette, once bound for the Autorama showroom floor, turned up in pieces a few days later in Detroit. “They basically took that and stripped all the parts out of it, and cut it into three pieces and burned it in three different piles,” Fischbach said.

“Every piece on that car is worth a lot of money.”

Southgate police confirmed Tuesday that the department was investigating the incident. Calls were referred to Detective Sgt. Ronald Pongracz, who was unavailable for comment.

Here’s the thing about traffic rules: they work as long as everyone abides by them. When they don’t, well… things can quickly take a turn for the worse, as this case goes to show.

A reader wrote in with a shocking story of driving his C6 Corvette fastback coupe the better part of a decade ago. He was in his late 20s and had just bought his dream car in DC when the power went out in much of the DC area where he lived.

Traffic lights were working at some intersections but not at others. And for the most part, people knew what to do where the lights were down: treat it like a stop sign. According to a witness by the name of Jason Motz, a woman driving through a Florida Walmart parking, saw her faithless, cheating husband with another young woman in his classic C1 Corvette. Assumingly filled with instant rage, the wife aimed her Ford Fusion at the C1 and pinned the throttle.

You would assume when the cars met, fiberglass would go flying, but instead, the Ford ended up on top of the Corvette. This is not to say the damage to the cars was not significant though, at least to the Corvette.

Signet Red w/Red interior, 283/270hp, 4-spd. manual transmission.

By the late ’50’s, the “Jet Age” was in full swing! Rockets were in and Detroit was determined to incorporate elements of them into their cars. Anything that represented speed or flying was cool; fins, side spears, bullet bumpers, and taillights. Even rocket hood ornaments found their way onto American passenger cars. And Corvette was no exception, albeit in a more subtle way. The height of this came in ’58. Big changes came that year for Corvette. It was completely redesigned with a longer and wider body, which meant that the interior was roomier, making it much easier to live with on a daily basis. The headlights also grew from two to four. But what made the ’58 especially unique with the abundance of chrome and other jet-like features. Out front, was a big grille filled with [...]
